ORGANIC PRODUCERS OF EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL
Collana Verde is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, on the volcanic mountain slopes of the Campania region in the South of Italy - overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Our terraced olive groves have a heritage that goes back over a thousand years. As you stand amongst these noble trees overlooking the valley some 400 metres below, it’s easy to understand why.
Set on six hectares of land in the company of chestnut, walnut, fig, cherry and oak trees, we grow local olive varieties and most of our trees are a few hundred years old. The setting is truly idyllic and coupled with low intensity, time honoured organic production techniques, the local flora and fauna thrive.
The organic design of the olive grove has remained unchanged for hundreds of years, giving the trees the generous space they need to absorb nutrients and light. This, combined with the rich volcanic soil, our high altitude and our Mediterranean climate, creates perfect conditions to produce the finest olive oil.
We pick the olives early in the harvest season and they are cold pressed on the same day they are picked. This allows us to produce an olive oil with a distinctive low acidity and rich in polyphenols (antioxidants).
Our Extra virgin olive oil
Collana Verde extra virgin olive oil is made from a blend of Itrana, Leccina, Frantoiana and Cicinella Sessana olives picked by hand and cold-pressed on the same day. This ensures that our olive oil retains all the flavours from the olives with notes of artichokes, freshly cut hay and the sweetness of almonds. These delicate and articulated characteristics have earned our olive oil the Great Taste Award two years running.
Our story
We are Alfonso and Indre. For most of the year we live and work in London but we yearn for a quieter lifestyle, one which brings us closer to nature. We both spent our younger years helping on our family farms, Indre in the north of Lithuania and I in the south of Italy. So, because of our upbringing, we share this intrinsic love of the land.
